SHRI PRADIPTO GHOSH TAKES
OVER AS SECRETARY OF MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT & FORESTS
Shri Pradipto Ghosh,
an IAS Officer of 1969 batch today took over as the new Secretary
of Ministry of Environment & Forests. He replaces Shri K.C.
Mishra who had vacated the post recently.
A Chemical Engineering
graduate from IIT Delhi, Shri Ghosh was earlier Additional Secretary,
Department of Economic Affairs. During his long and distinguished
career as as a civil servant, Shri Ghosh has worked with various
organizations including the Asian Development Bank and dealt with
environmental issues.
Interacting with
senior officials of the Ministry, Shri Ghosh stressed the need
for a collaborative effort on the part of various groups and agencies
to achieve the goals of the Ministry. He also said that sustainable
development requires that some trade offs have to be made in protecting
environment while pursuing developmental objectives.
