KVIC’s ‘GRAMODYOG MANTHAN’ AT WARDHA TO FOCUS ON MASS RURAL INDUSTRIALISATION


In a its bid to create abundant employment opportunities for the rural youth and to chalk out further strategy to improve the quality and better marketing of the Khadi products, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), under the Ministry of Agro and Rural Industries, is organising a 3-day congregation, ‘Gramodaya Manthan’ from September 23 to 25, 2003 at Wardha in Maharashtra. Over 2500 khadi and village industry activists from all over the country would be attending the congregation.The Minister of State for Agro and Rural Industries Shri Sangh Priya Gautam, the Secretary, Ministry of Small Scale Industries and Agro & Rural Industries, Shri S K Tuteja and KVIC Chairman, Shri Mahesh Sharma will also present besides a large number of dignitaries during the congregation. Representatives from khadi institutions, village industries mahasanghs, CPKVI etc would also attend the deliberations on several key areas in the field of khadi and village industries.

Many key announcements are likely to be made after in-depth deliberations at the end of the congregation on many areas including new measures for strengthening and developing khadi products, giving a new impetus to the highly-ambitious new employment scheme namely ‘Rural Employment Generation Programme’ (REGP), emphasizing further improvement in quality upgradation and uplifting the artisans under the Vishwakarama Abhiyan.

Besides, a meeting of the Central Certification Committee would be held during the congregation with an exhibition of latest khadi products. Separate meetings of Khadi Mission, Gramodyog Mahasangh and Rashtraiya Karigar Panchayat will also be held during the Manthan. The Ministry has constituted a coordination committee for executing the programmes of the Gramodyog Manthan. Separate meetings of the chairpersons, co-chairpersons and coordinators of all advisory/expert groups on Khadi, REGP, Science and Technology, Marketing, Artisan Sector, Youth Employment, North Eastern Region, Women Empowerment, Bio-Technology and Karigar Trusts are also on agenda. A workshop of REGP entrepreneurs will also be held during the Manthan.
