VICE PRESIDENT CONDOLES THE DEATH OF SHRI N.C JAIN

The Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has maximised supplies of steel to rural areas through 75 dealers spread over 60 different locations of the country. One of the major marketing initiatives taken by the public sector steel giant in the recent past was forming a separate warehousing division to streamline company's logistics management. Besides, SAIL had earlier implemented key account management (KAM) process that essentially meant to provide a personalised service to high value customers.

The public sector steel giant achieved a record production of 4.34 million tonnes (MT) of saleable steel, a growth of 8% during April-August 2003. Showing an all round improvement, the company also recorded the highest ever sales of mild steel at 4.1 MT (11% growth) and the highest ever export of 5.1 lakh tonnes (126% growth) during these 5 months. SAIL's turnover at Rs. 4,765 crore witnessed a surge of 14% during the first quarter of the current fiscal. SAIL plants for the first time crossed 100% capacity utilisation to operate at 102% of capacity during this period.
