JAGMOHAN PROPOSES FOUR POINT FORMULA TO IMPROVE AMBIENCE OF WALLED CITY


Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Jagmohan has proposed that walled city should be opened upto the Yamuna river front with green belt from Jama Masjid to River Front. Dayanand Park and other green area developed at Minto Road side should be further extended and sustained drive should be carried to re-locate jhuggis in that area. He said 40-acre land from Begum Bagh, near old New Delhi Railway Station to Town Hall could also be converted into green belt. The massive green area developed would work as lungs for congested walled city. Shri Jagmohan also proposed a task force for restoration and conservation of heritage buildings in the area. He said Archaeological Survey would provide all possible assistance in the conservation of these buildings, the Minister was speaking in a seminar ‘save the Walled City’ here today.

Expressing concern over encroachment and unauthorised construction around important monuments, Jagmohan said to maintain our heritage it should be checked effectively. He said implementation of laws in true spirit is very important for good governance, but, still it was a low priority, he lamented.

On the occasion, Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, Shri Vijay Goel proposed setting up of a development board for the walled city and an integration of agencies for civic work in the area. He said multiplicity of agencies is responsible for lack of coordination in the development work and effective implementation of schemes.
