TO IMPROVE AMBIENCE OF WALLED CITY
Minister for Tourism
and Culture, Shri Jagmohan has proposed that walled city should
be opened upto the Yamuna river front with green belt from Jama
Masjid to River Front. Dayanand Park and other green area developed
at Minto Road side should be further extended and sustained drive
should be carried to re-locate jhuggis in that area. He said 40-acre
land from Begum Bagh, near old New Delhi Railway Station to Town
Hall could also be converted into green belt. The massive green
area developed would work as lungs for congested walled city.
Shri Jagmohan also proposed a task force for restoration and conservation
of heritage buildings in the area. He said Archaeological Survey
would provide all possible assistance in the conservation of these
buildings, the Minister was speaking in a seminar ‘save the Walled
City’ here today.
Expressing concern
over encroachment and unauthorised construction around important
monuments, Jagmohan said to maintain our heritage it should be
checked effectively. He said implementation of laws in true spirit
is very important for good governance, but, still it was a low
priority, he lamented.
On the occasion,
Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, Shri Vijay Goel
proposed setting up of a development board for the walled city
and an integration of agencies for civic work in the area. He
said multiplicity of agencies is responsible for lack of coordination
in the development work and effective implementation of schemes.
