FOR AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL LABOURERS FOR AUGUST,2003
All India Consumer
Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers
on base 1986-87=100 for August, 2003 when compared to July, 2003
remained stationary at 331 (Three hundered and thirty one) whereas
it decreased by 1 point to stand at 333 (Three hundred and thirty
three) for Rural Labourers.
Rise/Fall indices
varied from state to state. In case of Agricultural labourers,
8 states reflected increase ranging between 1 to 4 points, indices
of 7 states showed decrease between 1 to 5 points and indices
of 5 states remained constant. Tamil Nadu with index at 354 points
topped the index table whereas Bihar (including Jharkhand) was
at the bottom with index at 305 points.
In case of Rural
Labourers, 8 states reflected increase in indices between 1 to
4 points, 7 states showed decrease between 1 to 4 points and indices
of 5 states remained constant. Tamil Nadu was at the top of index
table with index at 352 points whereas Bihar was at the bottom
with index at 307 points.
Meghalaya experienced
sharpest increase of 4 points each for Agricultural Labourers
and Rural Labourers. On the other hand, Jammu & Kashmir for
Agricultural Labourers and Rajasthan for Rural Labourers recorded
maximum decrease of 5 and 4 points respectively.
Point to point
rate of inflation based on CPI-AL and CPI-RL decreased from 4.75%
and 4.70% respectively in July, 2003 to 3.76% and 3.74% in August,
2003. Respective rates of inflation during August, 2002 were 2.24
% and 2.23%.
