FINLAND AMBASSADOR CALLS ON SHRI VIKRAM VERMA

TALKS HELD ON 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS OF 1952 HELSINKI OLYMPIC GAMES

ANJU BOBBY GEORGE ALSO CALLS ON SHRI VIKRAM VERMA


The Ambassador of Finland, Mr. Glen Lindholm, called on the Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Shri Vikram Verma, today regarding the 50th Anniversary Celebration of 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games. These celebrations will be held on 14th October, 2003 at 11.00 hrs at National Stadium, New Delhi.

The celebrations will showcase the felicitation of the Indian team of 1952 Olympiad with a special Silver Medal. The inauguration will be followed by start of a three daylong exhibition at National Stadium starting on October 14, 2003. The BSF Band will play the Olympic Fanfare creating nostalgic memories of 1952. Members of the Indian team of the XVth Olympiad, eminent sports persons, representatives of Indian Sports Federations, and the media, will attend the inauguration function. .

The 1952 Olympics were the 1st Olympics held after the world war These celebrations will mark the 50th Anniversary as well be an occasion to honour our great Olympians. During the meeting held today. The modalities of the function and areas of mutual interest were also discussed.

Anju Bobby George and her husband Bobby George too called on the Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Shri Vikram Verma today. The Minister congratulated Anju on her performance and asked for her suggestions. Anju thanked the Minister for all the help given to her during her training. Anju George also showed the medal that she had received at the Games. Bobby George; again gave an assurance that they will return with an Olympic medal.
