CAPITAL AT CHARGE OF INDIAN RAILWAYS
The capital-at-charge
of Indian Railways has increased from Rs. 827 crores in 1950-51
to Rs. 40,579.03 crores in 2002-2003.
This amount excludes
capital outlay on Metropolitan Transport Projects (MTP) and Circular
Railway, Kolkata. The capital outlay on MTP at Mumbai, Kolkata,
Delhi and Chennai was Rs. 3299.67 crores and of Circular Railway,
Kolkata Rs. 260.17 crores in 2002-2003.
Capital-at-charge
is capital contributed to the Indian Railways by the General Revenues
in the form of interest bearing loan capital, except that part
of it on which no dividend is payable on the basis of relief recommended
by the Convention Committee and approved by the Parliament.
