FINISHED STEEL PRODUCTION DURING APRIL-AUGUST, 2003

Finished steel production in the country during April-August, 2003 has been provisionally estimated at 14 million tonnes against 13.2 million tonnes during the same period last year with a growth of more than 6 per cent. Pig iron production during the period is estimated at 2.23 million tonnes against 2.18 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year showing a marginal increase.

During the period total exports of finished steel was approximately 19.5 lakh tonnes against 14.17 lakh tonnes during the same period last year registering an increase of more than 37 per cent. Besides, 2.5 lakh tonnes of semis were exported during these five months.
