INDO-ISRAELI COOPERATION IN EDUCATION
India and Israel
have signed a programme of cooperation in education. The five
year Educational Exchange Programme was signed here yesterday
between the Minister for Human Resource Development, Dr. Murli
Manohar Joshi and his Israeli counterpart, Ms. Limor Livnat, in
the presence of the Prime Ministers of the two countries. Recognising
that greater linkages between the two in the educational field
would be mutually beneficial, they decided to strengthen collaboration
in the area.
The agreement envisages
setting up of a Joint Working Group to oversee the implementation
of areas of cooperation identified in the programme. It will meet
alternately in India and Israel to review the progress. Both the
sides while striving for strengthening ties between the Ministries
of education, will also help develop contact between educational
institutions in the two countries.
The collaborative
activities include, exchange of research materials, publications,
literature, teaching aids, demonstration material and information;
organisation of joint conferences, exhibitions and seminars; joint
research programmes and publications; training programmes for
educational administrators and teachers; exchange of academic
and administrative staff as well as scholars, teachers, experts
and students; tie-up between institutions of higher learning;
setting up of educational/training institutions; cooperative programmes
between institutions of educational excellence in technical, vocational
and higher education; examining the possibility of mutual recognition
of educational qualifications; scholarships for further education
in recognised institutions of higher learning; co-operation in
the fields of Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics
and Science etc. Agreement on cooperation in Science and Technology
between two was signed in May 1993.
