IN-HOUSE INITIATIVES BY DSP
Electrical Technical
Laboratory collective of the Durgapur Steel Plant have successfully
replaced the old power plant alternator number 2 exciter system
with a thyristorised controlled system. The new system has been
completely designed and developed in-house by the Laboratory and
helped save Rs. 10 lakh. The job involved in depth technical knowledge
of the system and a high level of dedication. The new system is
expected to perform smoothly with minimum maintenance hassles.
During the ongoing
capital repairs of blast furnace number 2, it was seen that the
receiving hopper of the furnace was damaged and was in a bad shape.
It was affecting the charging into the furnace. The plant took
on the challenge of making the receiving -hopper in-house and
delivered it in time. The fabrication of this job was very complicated
as it required dexterous and sophisticated plate making, gas cutting,
edge preparing and a gamut o other finer activities.
The mechanical personnel
of Gas Cleaning Plant of blast furnace have proved their mettle
in rectifying the 84-inch westling-valve plate drive gearbox of
blast furnace number 4. The shaft was made in-house and successfully
tested. After making other minor adjustments, the gearbox was
made perfect for smooth functioning of the westling valve.
