RECORD TURNOVER OF RS. 46 CRORES BY
ALIMCO
The Artificial Limbs
Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) achieved a record
turnover of Rs. 46.06 crore during the last financial year. This
is about 12% more of the turnover recorded in 2001-2002 which
was Rs. 38.87 crore. The corporation has over the past few years
been achieving progressively higher levels of physical and financial
performance. This has turned the Corporation into a profit making
company that does not depend on budgetary support from the government.
ALIMCO under the
aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment manufacturers
and promotes availability, supply and distribution of quality
aids and appliances for persons with disabilities. The Corporation
manufactured more than 9.13 lakh components and aids and appliances
during 2001-02. About 45 thousand beneficiaries were provided
aids and appliances free of cost under the Scheme of Assistance
to Disabled for Purchase / Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP)
during 201-2002 while over 25 thousand beneficiaries were served
by ALIMCO till December 2002 in 121 districts through 207 camps.
The Corporation got
ISO 9001: 2000 certification in July 2002 from the Bureau of Indian
Standards which is accredited RvA of Neitherlands. The certification
has placed ALIMCO in a better position in the market of quality
aids and appliances.
The Corporation launched
pilot production of a number of new products during the last financial
year. These include pocket type hearing aids, below knee and above
knee endoskeletal Prosthetic system, light weight Floor Reaction
Orthosis using reinforced material developed from defence research,
Electric and Myo-electric Hands and Light Weight Wheel Chairs
of different models.
