ADDITIONAL ALLOCATION OF FOODGRAINS TO KARNATAKA UNDER SPECIAL COMPONENT OF SGRY


Ministry of Rural Development has approved the release of 65,000 MTs. foodgrains (rice) to Karnataka under the special component of Sampoorna Gramin Rojgar Yojana (SGRY) to be utilised for creation of additional wage employment in the drought affected districts of the state.

Special component of SGRY is for augmenting food security through additional wage employment in the calamity affected rural areas. 10% of the foodgrains allocated under the SGRY is earmarked for the special component, which is about five lakh tones of foodgrains. Special component of SGRY is demand driven and allocated to the states on the basis of requirement to deal with the calamities such as drought, earthquake, cyclone, flood etc. Under the scheme only foodgrains are provided free of cost to the States to take up employment-oriented works. Cash Component for the Scheme is provided by the State Governments either from the State Sector Scheme or Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
