YOUTH ARE OUR NATION’S STRENGTH SAYS PROFESSOR CHAMAN LAL GUPTA


The Minister of State for Defence Professor Chaman Lal Gupta has said that youth are our nation’s strength and National Cadet Corps (NCC) provides them a structural platform for the purposeful use of their potential constructively. Addressing the Central Advisory Committee Meeting at New Delhi today, Professor Gupta said that well defined aims and researched training schedule of NCC has contributed immensely in national building.

Professor Gupta said that he is aware that NCC had made a lot of progress during the last 54 years but lot more is still required to be done to hasten the process and the Government will give full support for the betterment of the NCC. He said that the fruitful interaction during today’s meeting and collective wisdom of this august gathering will contribute to evolve guidelines, which will further contribute to overall growth and development of the NCC.

In the meeting issues regarding absorption of the Short Service Commissioned Officers & Women Entry Scheme Officers as a whole time officers and whole time Lady Officers in NCC was discussed. The shortage of civilian staff and the three wings of the Defence Services also came up for discussion. The issue of evolution of Second Lieutenant or equivalent ranks in Navy and Air Force in the senior divisions of the NCC as has been done in the three services was also discussed.

Director General NCC Lt Gen BK Bopanna gave the update on the activities and service being rendered by the NCC for the nation in various fields. He particularly highlighted the problems faced by the NCC due to non- payment of 50 per cent share by some of the states for the Annual Training Camps. The Chief of Staff Committee and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Madhvendra Singh, Chief of Army Staff, General NC Vij, senior officials of the Ministry of Defence and three services were also present on the occasion.
