CONTAINER TRAIN OPERATION TO PRIVATE
PARTIES
Indian Railways have
decided to open up container train operation to organizations
other than the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR).
Central Warehousing
Corporation (CWC) and Pipava Rail Corporation Ltd. (PRCL) have,
so far, shown interests in operating container trains.
The PRCL has been
allowed, in principle, to operate container trains. Detailed proposal
from PRCL is awaited.
Opening up of container
train services to private parties is intended to introduce element
of competition in container train services besides meeting the
challenges of emerging globalization of Indian economy.
