The President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and the Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee have sent their heartiest greetings to fellow countrymen on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr (subject to the sighting of the moon today).

In his message, the President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has said, "Every Id-ul-Fitr is indeed a milestone in human life as the Day is the culmination of 30 days of prayers and fasting leading to the sharing of one’s earnings and happiness with the needy with gratitude.

Let the Id-ul-Fitr festival make human beings work for happiness and brotherhood. I send my greetings to all our people in India and abroad, on this auspicious occasion."

In his message, the Prime Minister said the festival of Id is an important celebration of India’s diverse cultural mosaic, which marks the culmination of Ramzan – a month of fasting, prayers and sacrifice. The festival which symbolises joy in mutual sharing gives the message of peace, tolerance, brotherhood and compassion. Let Id, this year, inspire people from all walks of life to rededicate themselves to the task of strengthening communal harmony and nation building with renewed vigour, Shri Vajpayee added.
