CENTRE TO PROVIDE MORE PARA MILITARY FORCES FOR DEPLOYMENT IN TINSUKIA AND DIBRUGARH OF ASSAM

The Centre has agreed to provide six Coys. Of BSF for deployment in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh areas of Assam to deal with the ongoing ethnic violence. It is also closely monitoring the situation and is in constant touch with the Government of Assam. The Union Home Ministry will also review providing more forces to Assam after the Assembly elections are over.

The Home Ministry said that right from the beginning when the tension built up on November 9, 2003, the Centre had advised the Government of Assam and Bihar to take preventive measures, so that the situation does not flare up.
