ALL-INDIA CONSUMER PRICE INDEX NUMBERS
FOR AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL LABOURERS
As compared to the
month of September 2003, the all-India Consumer Price Index Numbers
for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers on base 1986-87=100
for October, 2003 increased by one point each to stand at 333
(Three hundred and thirty three) and 335 (Three hundred and thirty
five) points respectively.
The rise/fall
in indices varied from State to State. In the case of Agricultural
Labourers, 14 States reflected an increase ranging between one
to six points in five States they showed a decrease ranging between
one to seven points while in one State it remained constant. Meghalaya
with 350 points topped the index table whereas Manipur was at
the bottom with index at 308 points.
In the case of
Rural Labourers, in 14 States indices reflected an increase ranging
between one to six points; in three States they showed a decrease
ranging between two to six points while in three States they remained
constant. Andhra Pradesh, Meghalaya and Tamil Nadu were at the
top of index table with index at 348 points each whereas Manipur
was at the bottom with index at 309 points.
Bihar (including
Jharkhand) experienced a sharpest increase of six points each
for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers. On the other hand,
Tamil Nadu recorded a maximum decrease of seven and six points
for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers respectively.
Point
to point rate of inflation based on CPI-AL and CPI-RL decreased
from 3.43% and 3.41% respectively in September 2003 to 3.42% and
3.40% in October, 2003. Respective rates of inflation during October,
2002 were 2.88% and 2.86%.
