CONSUMER COURT CASES RELATING TO RAILWAYS

A total of 2668 cases are pending against the Railways in consumer courts all over the country as on December 31, 2002.

During the year from January to December 2002, the Railways paid compensation of Rs. 14.30 lakhs as against Rs. 6.52 lakhs paid during the corresponding period of the previous year recording an increase of Rs. 8.36 lakhs.

Meanwhile, steps are afoot in Zonal Railways to increase customer satisfaction in order to eliminate cases in consumer courts. Besides, monitoring of such cases is being done in the Railway Board and Zonal Railways.
