RAILWAYS EARNINGS FROM FREIGHT UP
DURING APRIL-OCTOBER, 2003
Indian Railways earned
Rs. 15421.44 crores from revenue freight traffic during the first
seven months of the current financial year ending October 31,
2003 as compared to Rs. 15195.41 crores during the corresponding
period of the previous year, representing an increase of 1.49
per cent.
Of the total earnings,
Rs. 6520 crores came from transportation of 140 Million Tonnes
(MTs) of coal, Rs. 653.42 crores from 24.75 MTs of raw material
to steel plants, Rs. 772.04 crores from 7.92 MTs of finished iron
and steel from steel plants, Rs. 489.47 crores from 13.64 MTs
of iron ore for exports, Rs. 1232.22 crores from 27.62 MTs of
cement, Rs. 1889.19 MTs from 26.67 MTs of foodgrains, Rs. 676.22
crores from 14.93 MTs of fertilizers, Rs. 1398.03 crores from
Petroleum Oil and Lubricant (POL) and Rs. 1790.85 crores from
other goods.
