WHEEL FRACTURE CAUSED MYSORE-BANGALORE PASSENGER TRAIN ACCIDENT


Preliminary report of a statutory inquiry by the Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Shri Pranab Kumar Sen, into derailment of train 231 Up Mysore-Bangalore Passenger between Naganahalli and Pandavapura stations on Bangalore-Mysore broad gauge single line non electrified section of Bangalore Division of South Western Railway at 6.16 a.m. on October 23, 2003, has held that the accident occurred due to "the fracture of the left hand wheel of the last wheel set of last coach no. SWRCZ/DT 94681/A".

As a result of the accident, four passengers died, seven passengers received grievous injuries and 15 passengers simple injuries.

The findings of the Commissioner are under the consideration of the Government.
