AMENDMENTS TO THE PREVENTION OF FOOD ADULTERTION RULES –1955

PRESS NOTE


The Government of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Health has issued notification vide GSR No.771(E) dated 29.9.2003 in Part II Section 3, Sub-section (1) of the Gazette of India Extraordinary, proposing amendments of certain provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Rules, 1955. The notification is available on Website of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare www.mohfw.nic.in.

Through this amendment, following have been proposed: -

  1. To prescribe the tolerance limits of certain antibiotics namely, Tetracycline, Oxytetracycline, Trimenthoprim and Oxalinic acid in sea foods including shrimps, prawns or any other variety Fish and Fishery Products.
  2. The use of other antibiotics and pharmacologically active substances including all nitrofurans are proposed to be prohibited in any unit processing sea foods including shrimps, prawns or any other variety of Fish and Fishery Products.
