VISIT OF INDIAN NAVAL SHIPS TO
CHINA
A task group comprising
three of Indian Navy’s front-line war ships, Ranjit (a guided
missile destroyer), Kulish (a guided missile corvette) and Jyoti
(a replenishment tanker), arrived off Shanghai, on 10 Nov 03.
the Indian Naval ships were escorted into the harbour by a PLA
Navy Jiangwei II class corvette.
The ships entered
harbour to a tumultuous welcome with the 30 odd ships and submarines
of the PLA Navy, berthed either side of the harbour in Huanpu
Jyang area, hoisting ‘WTC’ (Welcome to China).
The ships were
received by Rear Admiral Xu Jiwen, Commander Shanghai Naval Base.
Vice Admiral OP Bansal, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief,
Eastern Naval Command who is presently on a visit to China and
HE. Mr Nalin Surie, the Ambassador to China, were also present.
Vice Admiral
OP Bansal, had a meeting with Vice Admiral Zhaoguo Jun, Commander
Eastern Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy, which was also attended by
other senior naval officials from both the countries.
Rear Admiral
Xu Jiwen, Commander Shanghai Naval Base hosted a reception in
honour of the visiting ships , which was attended by, amongst
others, Vice Admiral OP Bansal, Vice Admiral Zhaoguo Jun and Rear
Admiral RP Suthan, The Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet.
