SPECIAL CLEANLINESS DRIVE ON RAILWAYS
Indian Railways have launched
a Special Cleanliness Drive in trains and at stations from November
10, 2003. The Drive will continue upto December 31, 2003.
This follows a circular letter addressed to
General Managers of Zonal Railways by the Member Mechanical, Railway
Board, Shri P.N. Garg, conveying to them the direction of the
Government to effect immediate improvement.
The circular letter stipulates officers and
superiors including senior officials from Divisions and Zones
of all concerned departments to make surprise inspections and
take corrective action wherever required. It says, "staff
found slack in performing duties should be taken up suitably."
It further states, "it will be the personal responsibility
of higher management to make a perceptible improvement in cleanliness
standard both in trains as well as at stations."
The Ministry of Railways has also directed
the Zonal Railways to furnish the progress report, in this regard,
in two instalments. Accordingly, the first report will be furnished
for the cleanliness drive period, from November 10 to 30, 2003
by December 5, 2003 to the Railway Board and the second report
for the period from December 1 to 31, 2003 by January 5, 2004.
The Special Cleanliness Drive forms part of
the ongoing efforts to improve Safety, Security, Punctuality and
Cleanliness during the current fiscal declared as the year of
Customers’ Satisfaction on Indian Railways.
