PRASAD FOR ACTIVE MEDIA BROTHERHOOD
AMONG SAARC NATIONS
The Minister for
Information and Broadcasting Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad has underlined
the need for fostering active media brotherhood among the SAARC
nations while ensuring free flow of information.
At the 3rd
Conference of SAARC Information Ministers here, Shri Prasad exhorted
the SAARC nations to properly use the "explosion" of
new information techniques in building up better media relationship
and overall development of the South Asian countries.
The Minister said
that creativity in films, information and music should be welcomed
and creative people in these fields should be ensured unhindered
movement as a step towards strengthening the media and cultural
exchange ties among the SAARC countries.
Stressing the importance
of the ongoing SAARC conference, the Minister hoped that a consensus
would emerge for evolution of SAARC-recognized Regional Media
Forum, annual conference of editors from SAARC countries, training
facilities for media persons and establishing a SAARC Media Development
Fund. Shri Prasad further hoped that the conference would have
fruitful deliberations on its agenda to pave way for a renewed
all-round regional cooperation in information and media. He also
stressed the need of ensuring free flow of information since "information
is power".
Shri Prasad extended
warm welcome to the Information Ministers and visiting delegates
of the SAARC nations.
