JOINT RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT IN THE FIELD OF THERMAL TORPEDOES

INDIA & KAZAKHSTAN TO EXPLORE POSSIBILITIES

FERNANDES RETURNS FROM CENTRAL ASIA


India and Kazakhstan would explore the possibilities of joint research & development in the field of thermal torpedoes and also undertake joint cooperation in the field of naval armaments. The issue of torpedo testing facilities was discussed with Kyrgyzstan. This occurred during the Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes’ recent four-day visit to the Central Asian Republics of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

In Kazkhstan, Shri Fernandes held talks on bilateral cooperation in areas of joint exercises, military training, jungle warfare and Information technology. Discussions were also held on military to military cooperation and English language teaching. The Defence Minister met the Prime Minister, Defence Minister and Industry Minister of Kazakhstan. He crossed the Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan border by road.

While in Kyrgyzstan, Shri Fernandes held talks on bilateral cooperation in military training, Information Technology and fight against terrorism. During the visit Shri Fernandes met the President, Prime Minister, Defence Minister and the Secretary of State of Kyrgyzstan.

The Defence Minister undertook this two-nation official tour on the 05th of this month. The Defence Secretary Shri Ajay Prasad and the Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff Air Vice Marshal JS Gujral accompanied him. The Minister has since returned to the Capital on Saturday.
