SHRI KASHIRAM RANA CALLS UPON STATES TO LEARN FROM EACH OTHER’S EXPERIENCE


The Rural Development Minister Shri. Kashiram Rana has called upon the states to learn from each other’s experience in watershed management so that mistakes can be avoided and funds saved for more productive activities. Inaugurating a National Workshop in Ahmedabad on Experience Sharing of Watershed Best Practices in India today, Shri Rana said the participation of different states, NGOs, scientific and academic institutions and community based organizations provides a great opportunity for sharing experiences and learning from each other. He said that dissemination of knowledge and sharing of experience are important features of watershed programmes.

Shri Rana said that consequent upon the 73rd and 74th Amendments to the Constitution, his Ministry felt that there is a need to bring suitable modifications and amendments to the existing guidelines to empower the Panchayati Raj institutions. The new initiative, Hariyali was launched with the objective of empowering PRIs, both financially and administratively. The Minister expressed the hope that Hariyali will usher in a new era of empowerment of PRIs and effective self-governance in the management of watershed development programmes in the country.
