576 MAJOR PENALTY CASES DECIDED

The Department of Food and Public Distribution has cleared 576 major penalty cases and 1968 minor penalty cases arising out of vigilance complaints in the Department and Public Sector Undertakings during the last one year. While observing Vigilance Awareness Week from 3rd to 8th November this year, the Ministry has launched a special drive for conclusion of long pending inquiries and disciplinary proceedings.

Complaints against All India and Central Services officers were promptly looked into and in four cases draft charge sheets sent to Department of Personnel and Training and other ministries. Five cases were referred to the Central Vigilance Commission for First Stage Advice. The Department has finalised 64 cases out of 81 complaints involving other functionaries in the Ministry. The Central Warehousing Corporation under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has brought out a booklet "Vigilance-An Overview" to mark the observance of Vigilance Awareness Week, for guidance of its employees.
