DR. JOSHI EXHORTS STUDENTS TO TAKE UP SCIENCE AS CAREER

The Minister for Human Resource Development and Science and Technology Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi has exhorted the students to take up science as career. Without fundamental science there cannot be inventions and hence development of technology will become abysmal. Dr. Joshi was inaugurating here today a workshop on "Biology and Biotechnology: vision and Futuristic trends," organised jointly by the Jawaharlal Nehru University and a Public School, for both senior teachers as well as students.

Describing the new science policy-2003 as a vision document, Dr. Joshi said, it takes care of the shortcomings in the earlier one and provides all the opportunities and avenues for better science career with job-guarantee and best facilities for basic research. Besides, there are also incentives and awards for excellence.

Dr. Joshi pointed out that Biology and Bio-technology offers immense scope for research and career, especially for the girl students who are more suited for them. The Minister said that this is one area in which India has made lot of advances and path-breaking inventions. Our bio-tech products are not only superior but also cost-effective. The advances we have made in Agriculture and Health-care through bio-technology in particular, are very impressive and benefiting millions of people across the globe, besides us. He expressed the confidence that the work-shop will benefit both the teachers and students alike.
