JOINT NAVAL EXERCISE WITH CHINESE
NAVY
Three frontline warships
of Indian Navy will carry out a search and rescue exercise with
the units of the Chinese Navy on the 14th of this month
on the east China Sea. The Indian ships are INS Ranjit (Guided
Missile Destroyer), INS Kulish (Guided Missile Corvette) and INS
Jyoti (Replenishment Tanker). These Ships are presently on an
overseas deployment to the South China Sea and will be making
a port call at Shanghai (China) from 10th to 14th
of this month. The task group of these three ships is commanded
by Rear Admiral RP Suthan.
The Chinese Navy
is likely to be represented by a similar number of ships. Fixed-Wing
aircraft and helicopters are also expected to join. This would
be the first time that the two navies would be undertaking an
exercise of this magnitude. The exercise is aimed at ensuring
the safety of maritime trade and improving coordination in search
and rescue at sea.
This exercise will
also be a stepping stone in enhancing inter operability between
the two nations in the maritime field.
