MINES MINISTER PRESENTS WORLD MINING EXPO – 2003 AWARDS


The Union Minister for Mines, Shri Ramesh Bais presented the 19th World Mining Expo-2003 Awards at a function held here today. First, second and commendation awards were given to the selected participants in the category of design and concept, technology, operating equipments, country level participation and state level participation. Presenting the awards, the Minister said the 19th World Mining Congress and Expo-2003 is a Mega event for the mines sector in the new millennium. It has provided a forum for exchange of ideas and experiences of different countries of the world in the field of mining and mineral exploration. He expressed his appreciation for the quality of presentation by all the 331 participating companies from India and abroad. He said that such events would promote the mining activity in the world and help exchange of technologies and modern methods of mining activities.

The Minister said that the Government is determined to make India a developed country by 2020 and all the developmental activities have geared in that direction. He welcomed more foreign investments in India in the mining sector and said the Ministry of Mines will extend all help and cooperation to the country interested in taking of mineral exploration work in India. He congratulated the awardees and wished and expressed his happiness over the success of the 19th World Mining Congress.

The Secretary, Mines, Shri C.D. Arha in his address thanked the organizers of the event and said that the participation of the international companies as well as the State Governments engaged in mining activities in a big way contributed to the success of the Congress and Expo- 2003. The new directions and outlooks kin the organisation of stalls has made Expo more fruitful. The recommendations of the Congress will help the policy makers and the entrepreneurs in the mining sector in a great way.
