YOUTH PARLIAMENT COMPETITION WILL UNLEASH A MOVEMENT TO SPREAD THE FRAGRANCE OF PARLIAMENTARY DEMOCRACY INTO THE SOCIETY THROUGH THE STUDENT COMMUNITY - CHIKHALIA

THE JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA, PALERU, KHAMMAM DISTRICT, ANDHRA PRADESH HAS SECURED THE FIRST POSITION


Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Smt. Bhavnaben Chikhalia has said that youth parliament competition will unleash a movement to spread the fragrance of parliamentary democracy into the society through the student community. She was presiding over the Prize Distribution Function of the 6th National Youth Parliament Competition 2002-2003 for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalas held here today. She further said that the target of youth parliament scheme is not only to convey to the students the rules of procedure for conducting youth parliament; its objective is not even to criticize or eulogize the present or past Governments, but, it was conceived with the idea of instilling democratic ethos in our younger generation by inculcating in them democratic virtues like tolerance, discipline, respect for divergent views and beliefs, and other determinants of civilized social behaviour.

In 1997, the scheme of youth parliament competition for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalays was started in commomeration of 50 years of India’s Independence. So far six national youth parliaments pompetitions have been organized.

Last year, 75 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas participated from eight regions. At the national level eight Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, one from each region, competed among themselves. The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyala, Paleru, Khammam district, Andhra Pradesh has secured the first position.

During the function the audience also witnessed the brief session of the youth parliament of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Paleru, district Khammam, Andhra Pradesh. The trophies and prizes were also distributed to the awardees.
