COMPUTERISATION AND NETWORKING
OF COURTS IN METROS
The Government has
launched a pilot project for computerisation and networking of
all subordinate courts in the four metropolitan cities of Delhi,
Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai at a cost of Rs. 14.91 crore. This
includes a provision of Rs. 5.41 crore for Delhi; Rs. 4.11 crore
for Mumbai; Rs. 3.14 crore for Kolkata; and Rs. 2.19 crore for
Chennai. During 2001-02, an amount of Rs. 4.98 crore was released
to NCT of Delhi; Rs. 82 lakh to Tamil Nadu; Rs. 1.7 crore to West
Bengal and Rs. 1.56 crore to Maharashtra, making a total of Rs.
8.53 crore. During the year 2002-03, balance amounts of Rs. 2.61
crore to Maharashtra. Rs. 1.37 crore to Tamil Nadu and Rs. 1.97
crore to West Bengal were released under this project.
A project of networking
of Department of Justice with High Courts was completed during
2001-02. High Courts have started sending pendency statements
through ‘Judicial Monitoring System’ developed under the project.
At the initiative
of the Department of Justice, an amount of Rs. 18.00 crore was
allocated by the Planning Commission for construction of High
Court buildings including development of Information Technology.
The entire amount of Rs. 18 crore has been released to all the
21 High Courts in the Country. An additional amount of Rs. 5.60
crore allocated to NJA was diverted for construction of High Court
buildings and has been distributed to 21 High Courts.
