RAILWAYS TO REBUILD 2700 BRIDGES
SIGNALLING
SYSTEM OF 1494 STATIONS TO BE REPLACED
Indian Railways is
in the process of rebuilding and strengthening 2700 bridges on
its network spending an amount of Rs.1722 crores from the Special
Railway Safety Fund (SRSF) created in the year 2001. In all, the
Railways have 121,699 bridges.
An amount of Rs.7670
crores has been earmarked under this special non-lapsable fund
to renew 16538 Km of track and overaged signalling equipment of
1494 railway stations across the country will be replaced by spending
Rs.3130.
On other safety enhancement
measures like track circuiting, automatic flashers, simulators
and upgradation of training centers an amount of Rs.1146 crores
has been set apart under SRSF.
Over all, Indian
Railways will be spending Rs.17000/- crores under SRSF to replace
some of its ageing assets till 2006-07.
