SUGAR QUOTA RELEASED
Government has decided
to release Eight lakh tonnes of sugar for the month of April,
2003, 8.50 lakh tonnes for the month of May, 2003 and 9.50 lakh
tonnes for the month of June, 2003. With 1.15 lakh tonnes of levy
sugar quota released for each of these three months, the total
quanity of sugar available for internal consumption would be 9.15
lakh tonnes for the month of April, 2003, 9.65 lakh tonnes for
the month of May and 10.65 lakh tonnes for the month of June,
2003.
The non levy quotas
are meant only for internal consumption and with enough stocks
of sugar in hand, Government is in a position to release further
substantial quantities of sugar addtionally in case the requirement
so dictates.
