RESEARCH PROGRAMME OF RAILWAYS GETS A BOOST
The Research Designs
and Standards Organization (RDSO), a Research and Development
body of Indian Railways, has been given the status of a Zonal
Railway to give a focused boost to the Research and Development
(R&D) activities of the Railways. This will also give more
flexibility at the local level.
Reorganization of
RDSO has been done so that specific group of engineers are assigned
solely to R&D activities. Other activities like inspection
and vendor development have been separated as Quality Assurance
Group. The website of RDSO has been remodelled to provide comprehensive
vendor development information for ensuring transparency and promptness.
Besides, the Central Board of Railways Research has been reconstituted
giving a greater role to railways related industries and Indian
Institutes of Technology (IITs)
The Ministry of Railways
has sanctioned a test track for RDSO at a cost of Rs. 87.3 crores
for speeding up trials and testing connected with R&D activities.
It will be used for testing all types of rolling stock, track
components and signaling devices to optimize the designs.
The RDSO has been
developing continuously and adapting new technologies to enhance
safety and reliability in train operations on Indian Railways.
