EXHIBITION OF RAILWAY PAINTINGS BEGINS ON MARCH 21
The Railway Minister, Shri
Nitish Kumar will be inaugurating a fortnight long exhibition
of railway paintings at the Lalit Kala Academy, here on March
21, 2003 under the aegis of South Eastern Railway, Kolkatta. The
exhibition of railway paintings titled "Artways 2002"
is based on a five day long painting workshop organized by South
Eastern Railway at Vishakapatnam in September-October, 2002 wherein
some 20 eminent painters of national and international repute
participated and produced masterpieces.
These paintings are commemorative
of the saga of 150 year long strides made by Indian Railways linking
country’s progress with the growth of Railways since its first
introduction on April 16, 1853.
The long journey of Railways
in India has left a trail of romance and nostalgia criss-crossing
the country with a colourful impact on art and culture. South
Eastern Railway added a new dimension to the celebrations of 150
glorious years of Railways in India by holding an art camp ‘Artways
2002’ at Visakhapatnam.
The paintings reflect the
varied aspects of Indian Railways that have been constantly connecting
the length and breadth of our country for last 150 years. The
rich and glorious tradition of the huge network that touches the
life of people from all walks of life is beautifully reflected
in these paintings.
