Twenty-seven roads
in the North Eastern States have been declared as National Highways.
Maintenance and
development of National Highways is a continuous process. Funds
are allocated State-wise and not National Highways-wise. Year-wise
funds allocated during 2002-3003 for the North Eastern States
are as under :-

The minimum budget
equal to 10% of total budget for the development of National Highways
in the country is being earmarked for the North Eastern States.
