SPECIAL PLAN FOR EXPANDING AIR, DD
IN J&K
A special plan for
expansion and improvement of All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan
services in Jammu and Kashmir is being implemented at a cost of
Rs. 430 crores.
Giving this information
in reply to a question by Shri Talib Hussain Chowdhary in Lok
Sabha today, the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Shri Ravi
Shankar Prasad said that while the radio stations at Kathua, Srinagar,
Rajouri, Naushera, Kupwara, Khalsi have been commissioned, the
stations at Tiessuru, Nyomarap, Diskit, Padum and Drass are technically
ready for commissioning.
Shri Prasad said
that 200 KW MW station at Kargil is targeted for completion in
2003-04.
Regarding Doordarshan,
the Minister said that HPT Srinagar (Kashir Channel) has already
been commissioned while DD studio at Rajouri is expected to be
completed during 2003-04. Besides, nine other Doordarshan projects
are also underway in the State.
The Minister said
that Rs. 0.80 crores were spent on expansion of AIR services during
1999-2000, Rs. 14.68 crores during 2000-2001, Rs. 23.56 crores
during 2001-2002 and Rs. 5.32 (till February, 2003) during 2002-2003.
Similarly, Rs. 29.31
crores were spent in 1999-2000, Rs. 54.26 crores in 2000-2001
Rs. 52.24 crores in 2001-2002 and Rs. 29.35 crores during 2002-2003
(till February, 2003) for improvement of Doordarshan facilities
in Jammu and Kashmir.
