TIMELY PAYMENT FOR WORKS UNDER MPLADS

LOK SABHA

The State Governments are not authorized to impose treasury restrictions on payment of bills related to works under Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).

The Government is not aware that treasury restrictions are imposed by various State Governments on MPLADS funds.

One case of non-payment of bills in respect of works under MPLADS in Kerala was reported. The DC, Kozhikode clarified that there was some confusion during the transitional phase when the MPLADS accounts were closed in the Government Treasury and transferred to the nationalized banks as a result of which some cheques submitted to the Treasury could not be honoured. The issue of non-payment of bills was sorted out after funds had been transferred to the nationalization banks.

This information was given by Shri S.B.Mookherjee, Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation in a written reply to a question by Prof. A.K.Premajam in Lok Sabha today.
