EXTERNAL AID FOR URBAN WATER
SUPPLY AND SANITATION PROJECTS
External Assistance
from French, Italian and Australian agencies has been secured
for urban water supply and sanitation projects in West Bengal,
Manipur, Karnataka, Sikkim & Meghalaya.
Minister of State
for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Shri Pon Radhakrishnan
told Shri Prakash V. Patil and two other members in a written
reply in Lok Sabha today that a project to improve water supply
management in Kolkata, taken up with a foreign assistance of 36
million French Francs, is likely to be completed by 30.6.2003.
An agreement has also been signed for water supply and solid waste
management project in 14 districts of West Bengal. The project
will get Italian assistance to the tune of 50 Billion Liras. French
agency has agreed to give an assistance of 8.735 million Euros
to a sewage infrastructure project of Imphal City, which is likely
to completed by 31.3.2006. An assistance of 50 million Francs
has been provided to an ongoing project for improvement of water
supply & sewerage system in Bangalore City. The project is
likely to be completed by 30.6.2003. Bangalore Water Supply and
Environmental Sanitation master plan has already been completed
in July last with an assistance of 8 million Australian Dollars.
Gangtok and Shillong Urban Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation
projects are expected to be taken up during this year with an
assistance of 39 million Australian Dollars.
