ABOUT 11,000 PERSONS TRAINED AND 67,000 MAN DAYS OF WORK GENERATED
IN J&K UNDER SJSRY

The Central Government
has released funds amounting to Rs. 334.74 lakh to the State of
Jammu & Kashmir during 1997-98 to 2002-03 under "Swarna
Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojna" (SJSRY). Based on the reports
received from the state till 30th June 2002, funds
amounting to Rs. 1115.33 lakh (including unspent balances of old
UPA Programmes and the State share) have been utilized by the
State Government by assisting 7151 persons in setting up micro
enterprises, imparting training to 10956 persons and generating
0.67 lakh man days of work.
The Ministry
of Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation has been implementing
the centrally sponsored urban poverty alleviation programme titled
SJSRY since 1.12.97 with a view to provide gainful employment
to the urban employed and under-employed poor. The scheme is funded
in the ratio of 75:25 between the Centre and State.

was given by the Minister of State for Urban Development and Poverty
Alleviation, Shri Pon. Radhakrishnan in a written reply to the
question of Prof. Saifuddin Soz in Rajya Sabha today.
