Delhi is among
the ten most polluted cities identified in the country The others
being Ahmedabad, Agra, Faridabad, Jharia, Jodhpur Kanpur, Lucknow,
Patna, and Varanasi. This was stated by the Minister of State
for Environment & Forests Shri Dileep Singh Ju Dev in a
reply to a question raised by Shri Ravula Chandra Sekar Reddy
in the Rajya Sabha today.
Shri Ju Dev said
the Government has taken various steps to control pollution
which include appropriate siting of industries, promotion of
cleaner technologies, control of vehicular pollution through
promotion of clean fuels and introduction of stringent emission
norms and fuel specification, city specific action plans for
improvement of environment, strengthening of monitoring network
and institutional capabilities to facilitate and improve enforcements
mechanism etc.
