The Minister of State
for Finance (Revenue) Shri G.N. Ramachandran today released
a compendium on ‘Techniques of Investigation for Assessments".
Speaking after the book release, Shri Ramachandran said that
the book will be useful in guiding the Income Tax Officers in
sharpening their investigative skills. Looking at the changes
in the tax environment, it was imperative to revise the edition
which was brought out in 1981, he added. The Minister said that
the Assessing Officers need to concentrate on closer and deeper
investigation of the assessments that are selected for scrutiny
and the six-volume compendium of the Income Tax Department would
come handy as a reference book for this purpose. It would improve
their skills in detecting and countering tax evasion. The Minister
congratulated the expert group for their commendable effort
in bringing out the compendium.
