The Indian Railways
will provide a total Rs. 4499.26 crores as its share to augmentation
of suburban railway system in the States of West Bengal, Tamil
Nadu and Maharashtra. Of these, Rs. 2652.35 crores is for Kolkata,
Rs. 724.60 crores for Chennai, Rs. 1087.99 crores for Mumbai
and Rs. 34.32 crores for twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
These States will share 50 per cent of the total project costs.
Meanwhile, a survey
is in progress for introduction of inter-modal transport system
in Bangalore (Karnataka) by upgrading existing Railway infrastructure.
The Ministry of
Railways has also received a proposal for provision of Regional
Rapid Transport System in National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi.
The project is estimated to cost Rs. 2239 crores. It will cover
about 60 kilometers of length.
