LATEST ON KONKAN RAILWAY ACCIDENT
In
the Konkan Railway accident involving 904 Holiday Special, which
took place on June 21, 2003, 47 bodies out of 50 deceased persons
in the accident, have been identified. So far, forty five bodies
have been handed over to their relatives. Two bodies, though identified,
have yet to be claimed by the relatives.

The relatives of
deceased and of injured passengers have been paid ex-gratia amount
for meeting their immediate requirements. A total of Rs.2.6 lakh
has been paid to the injured persons and Rs.6.75 lakhs to the
relatives of those dead. In addition, enhanced ex-gratia payment
to the relatives of the dead is being arranged.
Of 26 injured passengers,
eleven have been discharged from the Hospitals. The hospital-wise
break up of injured persons still undergoing treatment is : five
in Government Medical College, Goa followed by five in Oros Hospital,
four in Kankavali Hospital and one each in KEM Hospital, Mumbai
and Chatrapati Raje Hospital, Kolhapur.
