LOHARDAGA-TORI NEW RAIL LINE PROJECT IN JHARKHAND

Land acquisition for extension work of new rail line between Lohardaga and Tori, which is a part of Ranchi-Lohardaga gauge conversion project, is in progress. Proposal for acquisition of land measuring 596 acres has been submitted to the State Government of Jharkhand. A sum of Rs. 4.10 crores towards the cost of land has also been given to the State Government. Tenders for earth work have been processed and bridgework taken up.

The entire project of Ranchi-Lohardaga gauge conversion with extension of the new line upto Tori is being implemented through cost sharing with State Government for its early completion.

The Lohardaga-Tori new line segment is targeted for completion in 2004 depending upon availability of land. There has been delay in handing over of land by the State Government. Efforts are on to expedite land acquisition.

Budget outlay for the project during the current financial year 2003-2004 is Rs. 17.34 crores. In addition, Rs. 34 crore is share of Jharkhand Government as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with it.
