RAILWAYS REVENUE FREIGHT EXCEEDS
TARGET DURING APRIL-MAY
The Railways transported
88.33 Million Tonnes (MT) of revenue earning freight during the
first two months of the current financial year 2003-2004 ending
May 2003, as against the target of 87.06 MTs, thus, exceeding
the target by 1.28 MT. The freight traffic was 5.70 MTs higher
than 82.63 MTs for the period in 2002-2003. During May, 2003,
the Railways carried 45.26 MT revenue freight as against the target
of 44.20 MT, thus exceeding the target by 1.06 MT. This was higher
by 2.80 MTs over 42.46 MTs in May, 2002.
The annual revenue
earning freight target is 540 MTs.
During 2002-2003,
the Railways transported 518.48 MTs revenue freight as against
the revised target of 515 MTs.
