RS. 170 CRORE BUDGET OUTLAY FOR RSP'S 2003-04 CAPITAL EXPENDITURE


A budget outlay of Rs. 170 crore for the year 2003-04 has been made for the Rourkela Steel Plant for its capital expenditure. An outlay of Rs. 21.50 crore crore (RE for 2002-03) and Rs. 93.39 crore (BE for 2003-04) was proposed for 10th plan schemes.

An outlay of Rs. 56.5 crore was proposed for schemes already approved. The major scheme taken up is upgradation of ERW pipe plant at RSP. The objective is to produce higher grade API pipes. The scheme has been sanctioned in March 2002 at an esimated cost of Rs. 89.15 crore. This information is given in the performance budget of the Ministry for the year 2003-04.

The report says that the plant has been modernised in two phases and the sanctioned cost of modernisation as approved by SAIL Board is Rs. 5105.29 crore and anticipated cost after considering financial restructuring is Rs. 4185.49 crore. The modernisation was completed in November'99. Following modernisation the plants hot metal production has gone up to 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), liquid steel 1.9 MTPA and saleable steel 1.67 MTPA.
