INDIA AND LAOS TO SIGN PACT ON SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION
India and Laos
are to sign an Agreement for co-operation in various fields of
science and technology during the impending visit of the Laotian
Prime Minister, Mr. Bounnhang Vorachit to New Delhi. The accord
is to be signed on Monday between the Secretary, Department of
Science and Technology, Prof. V.S. Ramamurthy and a Vice Minister
of Laos.
Laos has expressed
keen interest in India’s support in BT particularly agricultural
bio-technology, information technology and a number of other scientific
areas including advanced materials. Training of Laotian scientists,
joint projects, commercialisation and patenting of technologies
etc. also form part of the Agreement. This is the first time the
two countries will be signing a formal Agreement to take forward
scientific and technological collaboration between the two sides.
A high-level
delegation headed by the Prime Minister of Laos arrives in New
Delhi tomorrow evening on a week-long visit to the country.
