"NIRMAL GRAM PURUSKAR" - FOR FULL SANITATION COVERAGE
To encourage the
sanitation coverage in rural areas, the Minister for Rural Development,
Shri Kashiram Rana has announced an incentive scheme – "Nirmal
Gram Puruskar" in Bhuvaneshwar today. The incentive
would be given to fully covered blocks, panchayats, districts
as well as individuals and organization behind such success in
rural sanitation.
Gram Panchayat, Block/District
which achieve 100% sanitation cover in terms of - 100% sanitation
coverage of individual household toilets, 100% school sanitation
coverage, free from open defecation and clean environment maintenance
will be eligible for cash incentive. Individual and Organization
who have been the driving force for effecting full sanitation
coverage in the respective geographical areas will also be eligible
for "Nirmal Gram Puruskar" .

The incentive
for Panchayati Raj Institutions can be used for maintaining and
improving sanitation facilities in the respective areas. The focus
should be solid and liquid waste disposal and maintenance of the
sanitation standard. The scheme will be implemented from 2003-2004.
